Brave Star Selvage was founded in 2005 after the founders were invited by Cone Mills to view their first selvedge denim collection from the newly launched White Oak label. Inspired by the quality and heritage of Cone Mills’ selvedge denim, Brave Star Selvage became the first premium, all selvedge, “Made in the USA” denim brand-a distinction it still holds. The brand’s mission has been to educate discerning denim customers about the unique qualities of selvedge denim and the rich history of Cone Mills as a premier American indigo yarn weaver. Initially, Brave Star’s simple, raw, and understated denim was a stark contrast to the heavily embellished jeans popular at the time, making it a challenging market to break into. Despite early struggles and the global financial crisis in 2008, which led to the brand being sold and temporarily put on hold, the founders’ vision endured. In 2012, the original team repurchased Brave Star Selvage and relaunched the brand after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Since May 2013, Brave Star Selvage has been producing high-quality, affordable, American-made selvedge jeans in Downtown Los Angeles, staying true to their commitment to craftsmanship and authenticity. The brand lives by the motto: “Blaze New Trails, Respect Old Paths.”
